Brooke McElwyn had a total of seven hits when the Knights parted ways with the homeline

ST Paul, Min. – Playing the third road doubleheader in days, the Carlton College softball team spit out a couple of games at Hamline University on Sunday afternoon. Piper’s Late Night Rally prevented the opener from winning 8-5, while Carlton came back to win Game Two, 9-3. Brooke McKelvy (Sr./West Linn, Ore./West Linn) had seven hits in two games.

Game 1 Recap

Hamline (12-8, 3-4 MIAC) jumped to a 6-0 lead with three runs at the bottom of the first inning, and a three-run home run by Megan Rubelke in the second frame.

Carlton (15-6, 3-3 MIAC) did not get a runner until after three runs over the sixth inning, and had three walks and five stolen bases in a rally involving only two singles. Madison Collins (Sr. / Elmhurst, Ill. / York) First run moved to home, Emma Carthage (Jr. / Oronoko, Min. / Century) Home burglary as part of double theft, and Hello Soliman (Norman Charter to Jr. / Harrisburg, NC /) drew a base-loaded walk to follow up the third run.

Hamline’s Kira Kruger was able to end her complete game victory before the Knights added two more runs on top of the seventh inning to get to the tying run plate.

McClellan 4 for 3 and Collins 2 for 4 have two RBIs.

Carlton used three pitches in the game, including Allie Norton (So./Norfolk, Mass./ King Philip Regional), 3.1 tossed innings from Bullpen.

Game 2 Recap

The first four Carlton batsmen had singles as part of a three-run top. Pippers struck back with two runs under Stanza and another in the second inning.

Casey Kunnif (Junior / Mount Prospect, Ill. / Prospect) McClelby’s single-center fielder tripled the lead to start the third inning. McElwyn later scored as part of a double theft attempt.

The Knights came out on top with four runs in the fifth inning. Brianna Schaefer (Fy./San Diego, Calif./Mar Vista) McElwyn’s two-run triple right-center left Cunningham isolated. Collins’ fielder picked up the groundball and sent McElwyn home, and Amy Chen (Thus./Kirkland, Wash./ to Washington) Then with the final Carlton run he drew the base-loaded word to force Collins to go home.

Faith Hanshow (Jr. / The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands’ Christian Acc.) Crossed the line for her fourth win of the season, conceding three runs off eight hits. She has given only one hit in her last four frames.

McElwyn scored three runs 4-4 and three RBI runs. She is currently batting .564 this season, second only to MIAC players. Connif and Collins had three hits each, and later in this match three RBIs gave her five RBIs that day.

Carlton’s home opener will host the Knights on Wednesday, April 13 at 3:30 pm at St. Catherine’s University.
