Creativity on the mobile phone is central to the new book of poetry

Provincial Life Contributor Deborah J. Reid composes the poems for the book
A local resident, Deborah J. Reid, has been calling Hilliburton home for the past five years. Her retirement from teaching in the big city and her direct proximity to wood and sky revived her passion for writing and painting.
Shortly after he moved here, Deborah began writing poetry on her cell phone. Her first attempt, the Golden Tree, was boosted by a four-and-a-half-hour bus ride south, which she repeated every Friday to visit her mother at a long-term care center in Toronto. An author friend from Algonquin Highlands suggested that Deborah send this inaugural ‘Just Poem’ (about the yellow exercises she saw from her favorite window seat) to County Life for a possible broadcast.
Deborah has since created weekly “hymns” around the Netherlands through weekly broadcasts, each of which has been published, whether in empty verses, duets, sonnets, songs or rhymes. After producing two illustrated mini-books of single poems (Field Hockey and the Ontario Wizard), Deborah has now completed her third book, Rhymes with Hilberton. This is a hard core collection of 50 original read poems divided into four related topics.
Much of this content has been affected by COVID disease over the three long winters, where social isolation has created unexpected creativity in many of us.
Deborah at the same time created a deep appreciation outside of the multi-colors here, now in constant sensory access. Her new poetry collection is also bright with bright original illustrations. She combines her watercolor and acrylic paintings with the work of talented local writer / artist Janet Troll, who is equally grateful for all her creative inspiration here. Troll, like Deborah, is a regular contributor to county life.
Rhymes with Haliburton is now available for purchase at the Master’s Bookstore, the Railroad Gallery and the Arts Center, or Deborah itself.
