Tiffin – Heidelberg University Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Sweep the Doubleheader and win a game, 8-3, Game Two, 6-2 from Marriott College on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers are moving to 11-15 overall and the OAC is moving to 5-5. Heidelberg is improving 16-12 in the season and 5-17 in the OAC.
Heidelberg smashed an open game with six runs in the fourth inning. When the score was tied at 1-1, Heidelberg started a single and double chasing Mariatta starting pitcher Amelia Timco fourth from the game.
Jillian Middleton took over the circle and fought for her control. Three walks, one hit by pitch and one error led Berg to a six-run, 7-1 lead. Heidelberg added a sixth insurance run.
Marietta tried to rally to the seventh score with two runs before Heidelberg closed the door. Kylie Dogerti finished the first run with a sack fly and Middleton ran the second with an RBI single.
Timco (2-7) conceded three runs in five innings, conceding three runs. Ashton Helmke had four runs from Middleton, two saves, and an unbeaten one in the last three innings, conceding one run in two hits.
Caitlin Dems (5-4) went the distance in the circle for Heidelberg. She conceded three runs in seven innings with eight hits in one walk and two strikeouts.
Dougherty and Taylor Watt scored two hits each for the Pioneers.
Heidelberg drew 2-2 in the second game with four runs in the frame, and the bottom of the fourth inning proved to be valuable to the Pioneers.
Marriott came on board in the first inning when Dagerti took the lead for a single. Wax to Watts, Emma Burke loaded bases. Jess Brown played in double play, allowing Dogerti to score the first run of the game.
Heidelberg equalized with a pair of double goals at the bottom of the second inning. The Pioneers regained the third lead when Dougherty reached a single and scored Brown’s double.
Student Princess drew one run in the third and then took a 6-2 lead in the fourth. Kat Brady got a two-run single, followed by a two-run home run by Gobbie Stallbom.
Rachel Kazmirsky started the circle for the Pioneers, conceding two runs off three hits in 2.1 innings. Timco (2-8) lost after conceding four runs in four hits in 1.1 innings.
Maggie Hoffman (3-3) went on to win. They conceded two runs off six hits in seven innings. Hoffman walked two and kicked two.
Dougherty finished 3-4 with two runs scored. Brown had a pair of doubles.
Mariatta is hosting the University of Mussoorie for the OAC Doubleheader on Saturday. The first game is the first pitch at 1 p.m.
