In Pics: From Teacher To Farmer, Love Island

A teacher, ring girl, and farmer are among the 10 islanders that have been announced for this year’s Love Island Winter.

The popular reality dating show returns to South Africa for its winter edition, and while the pandemic put the show on ice in 2021 and 2022, this year’s edition returns with a bang — with 10 beautiful singletons set to make their television debuts.

So without further ado, let’s take a look at who’ll be joining new host Maya Jama down South for this year’s winter Love Island.

First up is the long-rumoured biomedical science student/influencer Tanya Manhenga — who has been confirmed as being one of this season’s islanders after she was tipped as a heavy favorite.

Telling ITV that she’s ‘looking for a boyfriend,’ Tanya — who said she has vitiligo — said ‘being in a Villa with lots of different people will help [her] work out who it is [she] may want.’

But if you’re looking to romance her, you better wear your socks — as bare feet are apparently one of her biggest icks. ‘Why are your feet flapping all around the house? Guys have huge feet too, yuck. Also, guys in the bathtub with no bubbles, such an ick, no.’

Kai Fagan

Also heading into the villa is PE and Science teacher, and keen rugby player, Kai Fagan — and with islanders past such as PE teacher Hugo Hammond and Ireland’s own rugby 7s man Greg O’Shea, we may have a dark horse for winner.

‘I’m looking for the right girl. I feel like I have quite high expectations,’ Kai said. ‘I don’t feel I should commit to someone unless I’m absolutely buzzing over them, because it’s not fair on them.’

As well as this, Kai, who’s a citizen of Jamaica, is a family man, adding ‘I always put my friends and family first and spend a lot of time with them.’

Lana Jenkins

Blonde beauty Lana is up next, with the Luton makeup artist already having some celebrity ties already — having worked with some before, she also has a claim to fame when she appeared on the BBC comedy Benidorm when she was just six-years-old. .

Lana admits that she ‘falls in love quickly,’ saying ‘I tend to know quite soon if I could fall in love with that person and then, as long as everything is going well, I’ll probably tell them I love them in about. a week.’

Ron Hall

Looking to bring some ‘fun and charisma’ to the villa, 25-year-old financial advisor Ron is next up — with him explaining to producers that one thing people may never know he’s blind in one eye as a result of a childhood football. injuries.

‘I went in for a header and got kicked in the face,’ Ron said. ‘I’ve got two different colored eyes, one blue and one green. It’s added to my character, there are so many people that are worse off than me.’

Ron doesn’t let that get in his way, however — adding ‘if anything, losing something like that makes you realize that. It’s not hindered me in any shape or form. It’s a good conversation starter I must admit.’

Anna-May Robey

Anna-May Robey is a 20-year-old payroll administrator from Swansea, and is looking for a man to make her laugh. Not asking for much, really.

‘I’ve been single for quite a while, my mother is bugging me, she’s like “you need to find a boyfriend!”‘ Anna-May said. ‘I’m just excited to try something new and I think going on. Love Island is a good way to meet someone.’

Anna-May also spoke on the worst date she’s ever been on, when the lad she was with — who never spoke to her again — fell asleep mid-date. ‘We went for food and shared a bottle of wine,’ she explained. ‘As I was speaking to him he fell asleep! I had to clink his wine glass to wake him up.’

Will Young

No, not the Pop Idol winner from 2002 — although I’ll be sorely disappointed if this 23-year-old Buckinghamshire farmer doesn’t point out the other Will Young!

‘Having grown up on a farm, it’s been quite difficult juggling relationships and work,’ Will said. ‘Love Island will give me time away from the farm to solely go out and find love. I think I’m at the time of my life where I’m mature enough to go and find a wife.’

As for what many people mightn’t know about him, Will said that he loves to meditate — saying ‘A girl I was seeing told me to meditate, I tried it and loved it. I stopped seeing her and carried on meditating! It’s a nice way to self reflect, taking a minute on my day/ week. It’s really nice and sets me up for a nice sleep.’

Tanyel Rivan

North London hairstylist Tanyel is up next, and has described herself as ‘funny, loud, feisty. [and] charismatic.’ Lucky us.

‘I’m hard to get, confident, funny, charismatic, good looking and happy,’ Tanyel said. I’m also a very loyal person, what is there not to love?’

And despite some icks from her fellow islanders including being barefoot, Tanyel says she hates ‘pretty boys’ because they have a ‘crap personality.’ Citing Channing Tatum as her celeb crush, Tanyel said ‘He’s manly and he can dance. If a man can dance I’m in love with him straight away.’

Shaq Muhammad

A 24-year-old airport security officer from London, Shaq has high hopes entering the villa — saying he hopes to find his future wife in South Africa.

‘I haven’t had the best luck with previous relationships,’ Shaq said. So I thought, “why not be in the sun and potentially meet the love of my life?” Hopefully I do come out with my future wife. The person I hope to marry one day. Hopefully she’s in the Villa.’

As for if he falls in love quickly, Shaq said that his friends and family reckon — adding ‘I’m the type of person that wears my heart on my sleeve. If I find someone I click with, I fall very hard, very fast. Sometimes that can be a bad thing. I’m a very emotional person. It can be a blessing and a curse.’

Olivia Hawkins

A ring girl entering Love Island? Where have we seen that before?

According to Olivia, she’s never been in a relationship before — so going on Love Island will be the perfect opportunity to remedy that — and said that now’s the time, saying ‘I feel like now I’m really ready to settle down and hopefully find the love of my life.’

Her impressive resume doesn’t stop at just being a ring girl, however, with Olivia saying ‘I’ve been a ring girl for KSI, I played a waitress in James Bond with Daniel Craig and I’ve also been a body double for Michelle Keegan and Emma Watson.’

Haris Namani

Rounding out this year’s contestants is 21-year-old TV salesman Haris, who’s hoping that Love Island will be able to help him find love.

‘I’ve never found love. I think this is the show that can help me,’ Haris said. ‘It’s the best opportunity for me to find the girl and find the right one. I’ve obviously not found the right one myself.

‘I’m different, I’m a unique guy, the way I act; confident, not awkward, especially with the girls,’ he continued. ‘I’m friendly, I’m very respectful as well. Anyone who meets me, I don’t think they have anything bad to say about me.’

Love Island – Winter returns to our screens on Monday (January 16).
