ITHACA, NY – For the first-time in program history the Ithaca College men’s rowing program will be joining the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) in the 2022-23 academic year. The IRA partners with three marquee qualifiers for the IRA National Championships in the Women’s Sprints, National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) and the Men’s Eastern Sprints.
The IRA hosted an inaugural Division III National Championship this past spring and Ithaca’s head coach. Justin Stangel is excited for the additional opportunities and exposure this membership will bring to his program.
“We are excited to officially join the IRA and work towards an invitation to compete for the newly established DIII Men’s Rowing Championship,” said Stangel.
“This is an excellent opportunity for Bomber student-athletes to compete on the national stage. The values of the IRA align with those of Ithaca College and our men’s rowing program. We are excited to be a part of the IRA and the continued growth of DIII Men’s Rowing.”
The Bombers open their fall portion of its season on n October 8 in Rochester, NY taking part in the Head of the Genesee. Ithaca will then compete at the prestigious Head of the Charles (October 22) in Boston, Mass. and then will take to the Cayuga Inlet competing in the Touchdown Regatta on Saturday, November 5.
