Maine College Roundup on Saturday: Maine overtakes NJIT

Connor Goodman scored five, Joe Bramanty hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning, and won 13-8 against the main NGIT at the American East Baseball Game in Orono on Saturday.

Jake Marquez, Jeff Mejia and Scout Notes added two RBIs for Maine (11-14, 8-3 USA East), which took a 6-0 lead in the first three innings and then trailed 7-6 before regaining control.

Goodman and Notes each had three of Black Bears’ 16 hits.

Matthew Pushard was relieved to have scored eight runs while conceding four hits and two runs in the final four innings.

David Marcano and Jared Donnelly went home for the NJIT (13-12, 8-3).

Softball

Colby Sweeps Bates: Logan Lą“¬beck and Colin McAvoy had two RBIs each in Game 1, while Chloe Wilcox went on to win the Grand Slam 5-3 in the second game, while Mules (13-8, 2-0 NESCAC) won the pair against Bobcatz. (5-10, 0-5), 9-3, 10-3 win over Waterville.

Five of Bates’ six runs were scored by Jano Sato.

Will Shinabek scored two goals for Bates.

Amherst 12, Colby 7: Mammoths (5-5, 3-3 NESCAC) beat Mules (4-5, 1-5) 9-2 in the second half at Amherst, Massachusetts.

Brett Miller led Colby to two goals.

Women’s lacrosse

Colby 16, Amherst 4: Elizabeth Hennessy had six goals and one assist.

Anne Eddie scored three goals.

Bates 13, Hamilton 12: Dana Swartz scored three goals and one assist (3-7, 1-6 NESCAC) for the Bobcats, who prevented the Colonials’ (5-2, 3-2) comeback in Louiston.

Trish Balser, Caroline Tagart and Jordin Twitter scored two goals each for the Bates.

Trinity 16, Boudoin 14: Christine Taylor and Lily Ives scored six goals apiece as Bantams (8-3, 5-2 NESCAC) beat Polar Bears (8-5, 3-5) in Hartford, Connecticut.

Sofia Sudano led Boudoin with four goals and two assists. Annabelle Gursh added three goals and one assist.

Salv Regina 14, A10: Nicole Smith scored five goals as the Seahawks (6-2, 3-1 Commonwealth) defeated the University of New England (2-10, 1-4) in Bidford.

Anna Stowell scored six goals for UNE.
