National Police: Intelligence Room Not Catching Fire, Only Short Circuit

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe National Police Headquarters Service Unit head Sr. Comr. Yudhi Sulistianto Wahid denied that the Intelligence and Security Agency (Baintelkam) room caught fire on Thursday night, November 24, 2022.

Yudhi clarified that the smoke was caused by a short circuit when the technician moved the UPS (uninterruptible power supply) battery in one of the servers.

“Regarding last night’s incident, what happened on the first floor of Intelkam was not a fire, but an electrical short circuit in one of the rooms where the Baintelkam server was stored,” said Yudhi at the National Police HQ, South Jakarta, Friday, November 25, 2022, as quoted from Antara.

“The firefighters arrived but there was no fire,” he added.

When the incident occurred, no police officers were on duty in the room because the building will be renovated next year.

Yudhi also said the police will examine the two technicians working in the room regarding the alleged negligence. “We will surely check it according to the rules on why it happened. The forensic laboratory center [Puslabfor] has also processed the scene,” he said.

The site is now under control and there were no significant issues. The cleaning is still ongoing. “We saw it ourselves this morning that there are no traces of fire like the news reports,” said Yudhi.

As previously reported, a fire broke out in one of the Baintelkam rooms on Thursday night. South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency received a fire report at around 19:55 WIB.
