Penn State Football is a favorite of the Philly Class of 2023 edge rusher

Penn State may have missed a commitment from one of the defensive tops of the City of Brotherly Love, but the Nittany Lions are the first choice to engage another growing defensive player from Philadelphia in the 2023 class.

Jameial Lyons, a 6-4 edge rusher from Roman Catholic Philadelphia, is. three-star recruitment in class 2023. Penn State is widely regarded as a favorite on the run in the recruitment process, and the first official crystal ball selection at 247Sports was placed in favor of the Nittany Lions. Brian Dohn, a national recruitment analyst for 247 Sports, threw his crystal ball selection at Penn State earlier this week.

The current recruitment forecast prepared by the On3Sports recruitment forecasting machine is also in favor of Penn State, with Penn State having a 98.9% chance of securing a Philly recruitment commitment. Ryan Snyder, who oversees Penn State recruitment for On3Sports, also has a Penn State forecast on the board.

Penn State appears to be combined with West Virginia, Nebraska, Cincinnati, Illinois, Pittsburgh and Temple. Lyons has a number of other offerings, including offers from Maryland, Virginia Tech and Boston College.

Lyons attended Junior Day in Penn State at the end of January. In 2021, he also made a few unofficial visits to Happy Valley, in July for Lasch Bash and again in September in a home game against Auburn. Lyons also attended Penn State Football Camp last summer. Penn State is the only school Lyons has reportedly attended at this time and is therefore considered extremely likely to end up in Penn State.

However, time will tell if any other school can sell its predictions well enough.

According to 247Sports, Lyons should announce its decision about the college on August 4, 2022.
