Women’s college basketball national championship game set.
For the first time since 2016, second seed Yukon will return to the national title game and face first seed South Carolina in Minneapolis on Sunday night.
In the first Final Four game on Friday night, South Carolina defeated fellow first seed Louisville 72–59.
The Cardinals trailed by seven after the first quarter and never recovered, struggling all night to defend Gamecox forward Alia Boston, dominating with 23 points and 18 rebounds. Louisville had no answer for Boston, who continues his argument as the best player in college basketball.
Louisville forward Emily Engsiler led the Cardinals with 18 points and nine rebounds, but was fouled early in the fourth quarter, effectively ending their hopes of making a comeback to Louisville.
The second match of the night between Yukon and first seed Stanford was even tougher, with the Huskies fighting to stop the Cardinal, knocking out the defending champions, 63–58.

Yukon led the way for most of the game, but within two minutes, after the Huskies had risen to seven, Stanford made a sharp comeback to double Yukon’s lead with 18 seconds left. However, it was as close as the cardinal could get, as the Huskies guard Christine Williams made a pair of free throws in 11 seconds to make the Huskies 63-58.
Both teams will not score again as the Huskies have survived to advance to their 12th National Championship game. Paige Bookers, who scored 14 points, five assists and four rebounds on Friday night, is Yukon’s ex-factor to advance in the post – season play. The Bookers lost most of their regular season after suffering a knee fracture in a match against Notre Dame in December.
After returning to the lineup at the end of February, the Bookers showed him why he was an American player when he was healthy. She averages 16 points per game in the tournament, and has proved that a matchup on defense is a nightmare.
South Carolina will have the best player in Alia Boston on Sunday night, but Yukon’s Pigeon Bookers is not far behind.
The Gamecocks will be looking to win their first national title in 2017 after winning their first championship in program school history. Meanwhile, the Huskies are looking for their 12th national championship after several attempts. They have never lost in a national championship game, as they enter Sunday with an excellent record of 11-0 in title games.
The Women’s College Basketball National Championship will be held on Sunday at 8 pm at ET ESPN.
