St. Mary’s – Carlton College nightclub sweeps

Vinona, Min. – After a quiet start to the conference schedule, the Carlton College softball team returned through a road sweep of St. Mary’s University, beating the Cardinals 3-2 (9 innings), 6-2.

Logan Robinson (Sr./Alexandria, Va./National Cathedral School) and Allie Norton (So./Norfolk, Mass./ King Philip Regional) Both turned in full-game attempts from the pitching circle.

“It was a great day to play some softball,” said Carlton head coach Amy Erickson. “After a long break, we’re happy to have our grove back. Logan and Allie threw great games and some timely hits brought us back to the winning streak.”

Of Trina Ishel (Sr. / Alameda, Calif. / Alameda) Two-Out Double Chased Home Emma Carthiser (Jr. / Oronoko, Min. / Century) were second, but St. Mary’s (10-7, 3-3 MIAC) tied the game with a two-run run below fifth. Innings.

The score remained 1-1 until the ninth score.

A double and error led to a run at the bottom of a St. Mary’s innings, but Robinson ended the game for his sixth win of the season.

Robinson gave up seven hits in her career-high 9.0-inning performance, conceding two runs (two only) with two walks and five strikeouts.

Game 2 Recap

Carlton had runners in each inning, and collected a dozen hits in the game, including two for Kunif, Brooke McKelvy (Sr. / West Lin, Orr / West Lin), Madison Collins, Lori Avila (Jr. / Sugar Grove, Ill. / Oswego), Carthage.

Knights made two-out runs in frames one and three. Double an RBi Brianna Schaefer (Fy./San Diego, Calif./Mar Vista) – Carlton’s lone extra-base hit of the match extended the lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning. Avila’s Sacrifice Fly brought in another UN in the fifth, and Carthage added an RBI groundout in the seventh.

Meanwhile, Norton outscored all games, trailing by seven runners in the scoring position, and improved 4-0 a year and 9-1 in her career.

Next to the Nights

Carlton will play its third Road Doubleheader on Sunday, April 11 at 1:00 pm, just days before Knights visits Hamline University.
