The Bookseller – Rights – Penguin Michael Joseph to publish first official Lingo Puzzle Book

Penguin Michael Joseph will publish the first official Lingo Puzzle Book based on the ITV show “Lingo”.

Ariel Pakier, senior commissioning editor, bought exclusive UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from All3Media International. The Lingo Puzzle Book will be published on 24th November in hardback.

The publisher’s description reads: “Are you a whizz with words? Passionate about solving puzzles? Do you love playing along with ‘Lingo’ on TV? If your answer is yes to any of the above, then the official Lingo Puzzle Book is just for you.

“With over 500 exciting, brain-bending puzzles, four, five and six letter games to challenge your skill, plus bonus words and timed games to test your true Lingo genius. So, what are you waiting for? Get to know your ‘Lingo’ and be as good as your word.”

The game show first aired in Britain in May 1988. In 2021, ITV brought “Lingo” back to television screens. Hosted by Adil Ray, its highest viewing figures are 1.9 million – the best launch of a game show in an afternoon slot since 2002, according to the publisher.

The show has now launched its own primetime spin-off, “Celebrity Lingo” hosted by Emmy award-winning entertainer RuPaul Charles, where famous faces go head-to-head.

Pakier said: “I am such a fan of ‘Lingo’ and can’t wait for everyone to be able to play along at home. This has been the year of word puzzle addiction, and Lingo is a classic. Publishing in time for the holidays, the official Lingo Puzzle Book will be the perfect gift for everyone on your list.”
