McPherson – The 22nd Annual CARS Club Motoring Festival will be held on Saturday, May 7 from 9 am to 2 pm at McPherson College. The Buick y-Job concept car of 1938, the Macau Shark Corvette concept of 1961 and the Pontiac Pegasus concept of 1970 are some of the cars expected in the field this year from the General Motors collection.
Each year, the student car show attracts rare vehicles from across the country, and this year it is expected to display 350 to 400 vehicles across campus grounds. 1941 Chevrolet Fleetline from Troy’s Ride Rides, 1937 Cord 812 Sportman, 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Coupe, Aston-Martin DB2, 1930 Special Esters 54Ben.
“The car show is the ultimate celebration of the automotive job that future automotive restorers and current masters of the industry will meet,” said Wat Mycely, senior student leader at this year’s car show. “The exhibition is entirely a student activity and welcomes all marks across different price ranges. Every year, students and professionals show off their talents and enjoy a great day surrounded by friends, family and community.
The weekend will also celebrate the dedication of The Paul Russell and Company Center for Automotive Research at the Miller Library on the college campus. The dedication will take place on Friday and the venue will be open for tour on Saturday.
Along with a variety of classic automobiles, the event will also feature entertainment provided by the McPherson College Steel Drum Band, Jazz Band and McPherson High School Jazz Band. The Model-T build team will be on display at 2pm just before the awards ceremony. Building tours of Templeton Hall, the headquarters of the McPherson College Automotive Restoration Program, are available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Food trucks will also be available on campus to buy food and beverages.
Car lovers are encouraged to take part in a cruise-in on Main Street in McPherson on Friday, May 6, starting at 6 pm. Field, and the opportunity for any car or motorcycle owner to showcase their rides at an informal show.
