New learning worlds are once again emerging at the University of Houston-Downtown College of Sciences & Technology, including the new Masters of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI) program.
UHD is one of six graduate level AI programs offered in Texas. Registration for the program is now open for the fall semester and offers a combination of hybrid, face-to-face and online courses.
“More and more companies are looking for automation and AI-based decision-making in their businesses,” said Dr. Hong Lin, MSAI Director and Professor of Computer Science. “Demands for AI skilled employees are growing rapidly and our new program offers our students a major opportunity to share their knowledge and talent in many emerging industries and markets.”
Lynn said the MSAI program trains graduate students in AI-specific skills for industries such as gaming, finance, the military and data security, as well as the automotive and supply chain.
According to Lynn, the National Science Foundation reports that companies need to become AI-capable industries in order for them to be successful and to experience future growth in order to be competitive. In addition, the World Economic Forum cites AI jobs as one of the fastest growing professions in the last three years.
To that end, the University’s MSAI program is geared towards providing students with an AI career by focusing on certain skills required by companies and organizations, including speech recognition, sign language recognition and prediction in machine learning. “Our program trains students to apply AI algorithms and models to solve real-world problems,” said Dwijesh Shastri, assistant chair of computer science and engineering technology.
Lynn noted that the 30-Credit Hour graduate program is designed to cater to the needs of students.
“While we were designing this program, we saw AI growth occurring in the industry and we also surveyed our MSDA (Master of Data Science) students to gain insights and opinions,” he said. “Our program is affordable and suitable for students who have working and busy schedules. We want to give them every opportunity to succeed.
Prospective students interested in the program are encouraged to attend the upcoming event Virtual Information Session Wednesday, April 6. For more information on admissions and program degree requirements, visit MSAI Website.
