The Bruins are late pushing the defenders on the recruitment trip.
Recruiter class 2023 Jerry Mixon, a cousin of the Cincinnati Bengals who runs back Joe Mixon, received an offer from UCLA football on Friday, the recruit announced on Twitter. Mixon received an offer from lineback coach Ken Norton Jr., so although he has experience on both sides of the ball, he seems to be seen as a defensive candidate.
Sacred Heart Catholic Prep (CA) also offers offers from Arizona, Arizona, Nevada, San Diego, San Jose, UNLV Washington and Washington.
Mixon had previously visited Cal, Washington, USC and Arizona in the offseason and stopped at Westwood on Friday. The visit ended with an offer for Mixon, which means that he left a sufficient impression on the Bruins coaching team to advance to the next stage of recruiting the Bay Area linebacker.
247Sports has Mixon fixed as a three-star rookie, which ranked him as the 49th linebacker in the country and the 60th player in California. Mixon was one of two players of the year in the Western Catholic Athletics League, but also became the All-League All-League team and won national awards.
Sacred Heart Cathedral won the CIF Division 4-A Championship with Mixon leading the way on both sides of the ball. In addition to being the team’s leading player, Mixon ended the title match with a 54-yard six.

Mixon had a total of 1,800 yards and 11 touchdowns in the junior year, plus 147 tackles, 14.0 sacks, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound prospect in terms of production, ratings and general hype is one of the most sought after recruits who have come from the San Francisco area in recent years. Mixon earned invitations to the 2022 Polynesian Bowl National Combine and Showcase, as well as the National Preps National Combine to the NFL Pro Bowl.
The Bruins internal group thinned in the short term, but Kaho and Jeremiah Trojan were worried about injuries and Caleb Johnson entered the transfer portal on Thursday. As for the 2023 season, Trojan, Darius Muasau, Kain Medrano, Damian Sellers, Jon Jon Vaughns and Jalen Woods all project to be the most consistent contributors, but Sellers and Woods may be the only ones to hold until 2024.
Employees Norton and UCLA began offering several linebackers to those interested in 2023. Siale Esera and Tre Edwards already had bids in their back pockets, making Mixon the third player to reach that stage.
No one has committed to the Bruins since Saturday, and the team as a whole has no commitment for 2023.
