Water polo: Wittenberg, CWPA Force Carthage, Macaulay tops

Box Score 1 Kenosha, Wis. – The Macaulayster College water polo team played at the Koenigseader Aquatic Center on Sunday with two wins at the CWPA Regional in Carthage. Scotts beat hosts Firebird 16-4 in the morning, beating Wittenberg 10-9 to improve 4-11 this season.

Against Carthage, Macaulay scored four goals in the first quarter and five in the second to take a 9-1 lead at half-time. Sr. Relay Waters (Portland, Oregon / St. Mary’s Academy) Jr. Eleanor Mikhad (Long Grove, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) scored three goals each with the senior in the first half. Annika Kruger (Emerald Hills, California./Sequoia) Twice and Junior Scoring Sydney Hollingsworth (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) Scoring once in the second quarter. It was the same in the second half as Kruger added three goals in the first year Brooke Lane (Meriden, Conn. / Hopkins School) Waters and Hollingsworth scored twice each.

In Scotland’s final match of the weekend, McLaughlin trailed 5-3 a quarter, despite two goals from Hollingsworth and another from Michoud. In the second quarter, Kruger found the net twice and tied the score at 5-5, before the half time Wittenberg scored and the score was 6-5. Wittenberg scored early in the third quarter and then in the first year Sean Lewandowski (North Haven, Conn. / Wilston Northampton) and second year Gabriela Weiner (Chicago, Ill. / Whitney M. Young Magnet) The Scots moved to the fourth quarter to level the score at 7-7. After Anaya Lightner scored her sixth goal of the match to lift the Tigers, Macaulay Waters returned to the Waters, where they scored three goals in a row to give Scotts their first lead, 10-8 with three minutes left. McAlester held Wittenberg to one goal, scoring his second win of the rest of the way.

Second year goalkeeper Laurel O’Hare (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) Scotland led the defense with 11 saves.

Carthage will be hosted by Macaulayster on Saturday, April 16 at 7:00 pm at Riley Pool.
